Tips for Using Extra Floor Space

June 22, 2017

Most people do not have enough floor space. They would love to be able to add an extra piece of furniture or décor piece to their room, but it is just not possible. Then, there are others who have so much floor space that they do not know what to do with it all. Believe it or not, having too much is as challenging as not having enough. Large rooms naturally feel "cold" and uninviting. It is incredibly hard to create a dynamic focal point because the eyes tend to get lost in the open environment. Now, you might be thinking you will just add another piece of furniture. This is fine, but it is not going to do anything to make the room feel more welcoming and comfortable. There are a few things you can add to a large room though that will instantly make it feel a bit cozier.

Freestanding Water Fountains

Most of the population only dreams of having enough floor space to accommodate a freestanding water fountain. So, if you do, you should be very grateful. One of these will create the most dynamic focal points you can possibly add to your space. Some are rear-mounted, so they can rest against a wall, while others are center-mounted. This variety can be positioned in a more random location for a contemporary appeal, and they are beautiful from any angle. Freestanding water fountains are available in stunning materials, such as slate, glass, mirror and copper, and they can instantly turn your cold space into one that is soothing and tranquil.

Freestanding Bio Ethanol Fireplace

You could go with a more traditional gel or electric fireplace that is placed against a wall, but if you have the floor space you might as well jump on the opportunity to add a freestanding bio ethanol fireplace to your décor. You could even create a quaint little sitting or reading area within a large room.

Grandfather Clocks

It is pretty hard to not feel like you are "home" when there is a handsome grandfather clock there to welcome you. These clocks do not make quite the strong focal point as freestanding water fountains and fireplaces, but they can be a nice complement to them.

Rugs

Never underestimate the power of a fabulous rug. This is especially true if you have a neutral, all black, or fairly simple color palette. A rug can really add a finishing touch on a room. A vibrant color splash is a great way to bring warmth into a room, but even a sophisticated print would at least add a little depth.
